Meet Our Writing Consultants

AlukaAluka

Year: Junior

Major: Sociology

Hometown: Denver, CO

I enjoy being part of my educational community and supporting my colleagues. I find empowering others through a collaborative writing process to be greatly rewarding, and I never cease to be inspired by what I learn from those I help. I strive to provide a comfortable and, dare I say, fun learning dynamic for tutees to incite their creativity and writing flow. This is my fourth semester as a writing tutor and I am excited to carry this experience into my future research and teaching career, as well as my life in general.

As a scientifically-inclined reader and writer, I recognize the importance of being a good communicator, regardless of whether you are writing a paper for a peer-reviewed journal or a new series of novels. I love to write and teach, and I’m excited for the opportunity to combine my own interests to help others articulate theirs more clearly and powerfully.

The Writing Studio has helped me build a solid foundation for my academic and professional life. I really enjoy helping others succeed and accomplish their goals, so I consider myself very fortunate to be able to work here. I think everyone, and anyone, can write if they put their mind to it, no matter how much experience they may have. I continually strive to put forth my best effort and am looking forward to an awesome final semester here at HSU!

My goal is to teach English at a community college, and I firmly believe that the best way to become a great professor is by learning from students at an individual level. Every student I see helps me become a stronger tutor, writer, and instructor!

As someone who plans to go into teaching, I enjoy helping others and empowering students to strengthen their unique voice for whatever they are passionate about. I am in my second year of peer tutoring, and I continue to learn every day from each student who comes in for a consultation. I love researching and finding connections between texts, film, and other media, and I want others to realize that English and Writing can be intertextual and fun!

Year: Senior

Major: Psychology/Theatre

Hometown: Boulder Creek, CA

As a double major, I am always wanting to bridge the gap between my two areas of study. Being a Writing Studio Consultant allows me to work one-on-one with others to help find and craft their own unique writing styles. I have always enjoyed helping facilitate people's growth, whether it be through camp counseling, swim instructing, being a firefighter intern, lifeguard, as well as theater performer. Putting on as many diversified hats, as you will, is something I’ve never been able to put down. That said, let’s get to the pen and paper, and have some fun creating writing!
