Tutor Training: Tutoring 101

This workshop is part of a professional-development series for current tutors and ISAs across campus. The series is designed to support and enhance tutoring skills and practice.  Tutor training workshop “Tutoring 101” focuses on do’s and don’ts of tutoring, how to build rapport, and how to create goals for effective tutoring sessions. There will also be opportunities to practice.

Tutor Training: Active Listening

This workshop is part of a professional-development series for current tutors and ISAs across campus. The series is designed to support and enhance tutoring skills and practice. “Active Listening” focuses on an essential tutoring skill--knowing how to really listen. In this session, participants will learn about verbal and non-verbal communication in tutoring sessions and engage in hands-on practice to reflect on and improve their own listening skills. 

Tutor Training: Mindset Theory

This workshop is part of a professional development series for current tutors and Instructional Student Assistants (ISAs) across campus. The series is designed to support and enhance tutoring skills and practice. 

“Mindset Theory” explores Dr. Carol Dweck’s work, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. Learn how we can use it to influence our own thinking and, as tutors, how we can use it to foster student success.

Tutor Training: Strategic Questioning

This workshop is part of a professional development series for current tutors and Instructional Student Assistants (ISAs) across campus. The series is designed to support and enhance tutoring skills and practice. "Strategic Questioning” examines the ways tutors can ask questions during tutoring sessions to set agendas, facilitate learning, and encourage independent thinking.

Tutor Training: Engaging Students with Active Learning

Real learning occurs when the brain is engaged.This Skill Shop will provide information about what active learning is, why it helps us to remember, and provide activities that can be used in facilitating a fun and active learning environment.
