Fall 2020 SkillShops
Graduation Writing Proficiency Exam (GWPE) Prep SkillShops
All HSU undergraduates must pass the Graduation Writing Proficiency Exam (GWPE) to graduate. Students are encouraged to take the exam in their junior year.
The Exam

The prep workshop will be offered twice over Zoom:
- Date: Wednesday, October 28

In this interactive workshop, we will review the purpose, format, and scoring of the GWPE, and then practice strategies to help you perform your best on exam day.
NOTE: The workshop does not include a full-length timed practice exam. After the workshop, you are encouraged to complete a timed exam on your own and then meet with a Writing Studio Consultant for personalized feedback. If you can't attend either workshop, you can come to the Writing Studio for help preparing for the exam. Visit the Learning Center Virtual Front Desk (opens Zoom link) or make an appointment online through tutortrac.humboldt.edu.
The workshop is free for HSU students.
Organizing as an Online Learner

Creating a Productive Workspace & Dealing with Distractions

Where do you study now that most classes are online? Desk, couch, kitchen table? No matter where you study, this workshop will show you ways to make your space work for you. Come prepared to evaluate your space, discuss ways to make it your own, and discover tools that can help you tune out distractions and stay focused.
Get Connected: Build Academic Community

Getting and staying connected to other people is a critical component of being successful in an online learning environment, but how do you build a community from inside your house? In this SkillShop, students will learn strategies for building relationships with peers, advisors, faculty, and others to create a community that supports their academic goals.
